IBM pSeries

IBM pSeries was the brand name IBM used from 2000 to 2008 for its RISC-based UNIX servers running AIX, part of the same eServer naming generation that gave AS400 buyers the iSeries name. In 2008, IBM unified the pSeries (AIX) and iSeries (IBM i) hardware lines into a single platform, IBM Power Systems, which now runs AIX, IBM i, or Linux on the same underlying Power processor architecture. Buyers and resellers who grew up on the pSeries name still search for it by that name even though IBM has not sold hardware under the pSeries brand in over fifteen years. A reseller quoting a pSeries replacement today is quoting a current-generation IBM Power Systems server configured for AIX, and the conversation should center on which Power model and AIX version fits the existing workload, not on finding a literal pSeries successor product.
