ERP and Business Software

SAP's real sales driver right now isn't features, it's a clock: SAP ECC mainstream maintenance ends December 31, 2027, no further extensions, and SAPinsider's 2026 benchmark shows only 34% of the installed base has actually finished moving to S/4HANA. Every SAP conversation in 2026 is really a migration-timeline conversation, whether the buyer says so or not.

What to Know Before This Conversation

  • RISE with SAP was rebranded SAP Cloud ERP in 2025, same bundled software, infrastructure, and services model, just don't be the rep still saying "RISE" to a buyer who's already moved past the old name.
  • Extended maintenance through 2030 exists but carries a 2-point cost premium and buys time, not a permanent out, frame it as a bridge, not a destination.
  • SAP Business One is the credible mid-market answer when full S/4HANA scope is overkill, don't force every SAP conversation into an S/4HANA migration.
  • S/4HANA's real strength is still complex manufacturing and global supply chain depth, that's where the longer implementation timeline is genuinely justified, not a weakness to explain away.
